An elevator modernization requires integrating the building’s Fire Alarm System with the Elevator controllers.  The new codes require Safety features like emergency elevator cab recalls to safe floor in case of fire in any elevator lobby, installation of smoke detectors in each floor elevator lobby, An elevator shunt trip is required when fire sprinklers are installed inside the elevator shaft, pit, or machine/control room. Its purpose is to cut off main line power before water discharges onto live electrical equipment, installation of exhaust fan and smoke detector inside the Elevator Machine Room is also required.

Fire Alarm – Elevators Modernization Integration Requirements:

Phase I and II Recall: Smoke detectors inside the machine rooms, elevator lobbies or elevator shaft must automatically send cars to a designated safe recall floor.

Shunt Trip Coordination: Fire sprinkler activation in the elevator pit or elevator shaft requires automated power cutoff before water hits live electrical components.
