Access control is the ability to deny or permit the access to a particular place by a particular person. Access control mechanisms can be used in managing physical barriers such as a door or a gate, which only programed users should be able to access.
When a card is presented to a reader, the reader sends the card‘s information, usually a digital number, to a control panel, a highly reliable processor. The control panel compares the card‘s digital number to an access control list, grants or denies the presented request, and sends a transaction log to a database.
If the access is denied based on the access control database list, the door remains locked. When there is a match between the card code and the access control list, the access board operates a relay that unlocks the door. The control panel also ignores a door open signal to prevent an alarm.
